Morale among the invading Russian soldiers is so low that troops are allegedly shooting themselves in the legs to avoid fighting — using Ukrainian ammo to make it look as if they were shot by defenders.
According to the latest estimate from the Ukrainian government, the Russian forces have been widely reported to be demoralized in the assault, which has already cost the lives of as many as 14,000 people.

“To return home, Russian officers shoot themselves in the legs.” He went on to say, “There are dead everywhere.” Another soldier was overheard stating, “We’re hunting for Ukrainian ammo so we can shoot ourselves in the legs and head to the hospital.”
According to accounts, deserters fear heavy punishment in the homeland, therefore using Ukrainian guns and ammo on themselves helps them to disguise their self-inflicted wounds as fighting wounds.
The disillusioned troops were utilizing 7.62mm bullets shot by their foes rather than 5.62 rounds fired by their own AK-47 assault rifles, according to an intercepted radio recording obtained by the Mirror.
On the footage, captured Russian soldiers sobbed as they apologized for murdering Ukrainian citizens, including children, and agreed that President Vladimir Putin’s invasion was a “terrible mistake.”
He was one of three people apprehended before being granted the opportunity to talk with journalists from Interfax Ukraine. Galkin Sergey Alekseevich, one of the troops, later apologized for Russia’s actions in Ukraine.
However, footage of seized servicemen has sparked concerns about whether Ukraine is abiding by the Geneva Conventions, which guarantee the safety of POWs. Ukraine’s President, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, stated that Ukrainian forces have seized and are holding roughly 1,000 men.
“We already have over 1,000 detainees and their video testimony,” the Ukrainian leader added. Per NY Post, he also expressed his desire to engage with the International Criminal Court to guarantee that “those who invaded our area for no reason be punished.”
