KYREN WILSON has spoken up about his son’s critical medical issues to better prepare for the World Snooker Championship next month.

When his youngest son Bailey spent five days in the hospital last month, the world’s No. 7 was sick with worry.

Initially, doctors suspected the problem might have been a possible brain or spinal tumor.

The medical view is that the five-year-old may have suspected Crohn’s disease, which leads to gut inflammation and bowels, after additional testing and the outcomes of an MRI scan.

Wilson acknowledges that it was challenging for him to focus on performance this season on the baize, even though he ultimately made it to the Players Championship semifinals in Wolverhampton and chose not to withdraw.

The 31-year-old will compete against China’s Ding Junhui in the Tour Championship semifinals on Friday in Hull, the last tournament on the 2022–23 schedule, to win the £150,000 grand prize on Sunday.

Yet after Tuesday’s quarterfinal triumph over Ali Carter, who was given a Crohn’s disease diagnosis 20 years prior, the Warrior opened up about the recent emotional upheaval his family has been through.

Wilson told the World Snooker Tour: “We had a short time to prepare for an MRI scan to figure out whether it was a cancer, and that was quite stressful.” Wilson and his wife Sophie also have an eight-year-old son named Finley.

While we are still unsure, it looks more likely to be a condition similar to Crohn’s disease.

“He had changed slightly in the days leading up to getting here; he was rushing around. Nothing would have been wrong with you knowing it.

“It can be extremely harmful if you bottle things up, so sometimes talking about them is good. His well-being comes first.

“There have been occasions when I’ve thought snooker is the end-all-be-all.

“But, this has made me appreciate my good fortune and has given me the freedom to simply enjoy the game.

“I didn’t want what has been going on to appear like a justification, so I took it off the table. But, a new era is upon us where communication is crucial.

“In the past, I have never discussed my life in the background. Nonetheless, I believed it was crucial to carry it out this time.

On Saturday, April 15, the Crucible global snooker tournament gets underway, and reigning champion Ronnie O’Sullivan is going for a record-breaking ninth title.

Crohn’s disease: the definition of it

It is a condition that results in digestive tract inflammation. The body’s response to injury or irritation is inflammation, resulting in redness, swelling, and discomfort.

Although sufferers will experience periods of good health, it is frequently defined as a chronic condition, and there are episodes where symptoms are more intense.

It is one of the two primary types of IBD; the other type is a condition known as Ulcerative Colitis. It may be brought on by inherited genes, an aberrant immunological response, and is presumably brought on by some element of the environment.

After his son’s health struggles, Wilson is playing snooker.

Bailey and Finley are the names of Kyren Wilson’s two boys, who he shares with his wife, Sophie. According to Kyren Wilson, talking openly regarding his son Bailey’s health concerns has “freed” him up to once again enjoy playing snooker.

The Englishman, 31, defeated Ali Carter 10-4 in the Tour Championship quarterfinal match on Tuesday in Hull.

Five-year-old Bailey first fell ill in January, but the first brain or spinal tumor diagnosis was false.

On Friday, Wilson will compete against Ding Junhui of China in the semifinals. We had to wait a couple of days for an MRI scan to see whether it was a tumor, and that was very difficult, he said to the World Snooker Tour.
