Melinda French Gates, a billionaire philanthropist, may appear to have it all, but it didn’t make her divorce from Bill Gates any easier. Gates discussed his divorce from Microsoft co-founder in an interview with CBS Mornings host Gayle King that aired Thursday. The highly-publicized divorce was finalized in August 2021 after 27 years of marriage.
In May 2021, Melinda French Gates and Bill Gates revealed that they were divorcing. The power couple, who co-chairs the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, worldwide health, and development organization, said they will keep working together at the foundation.

Weeks after their divorce was announced, Microsoft Corp. board members decided in 2020 that Bill Gates should not continue to serve on the company’s board of directors while they investigated his previous improper intimate involvement with a female Microsoft employee.
French Gates, who studied Master of Business Administration at Fuqua School of Business, also runs Pivotal Ventures, an investment and incubation firm that funds businesses that empower women.
According to Forbes, the philanthropist’s net worth in 2022 will be $6.2 billion. According to documents, French Gates became a billionaire on her own in early May 2021, when they announced the dissolution of their marriage when Bill Gates transferred $2.4 billion in shares to her.
Gates’ unidentified representative stated that he had an affair over 20 years ago that ended “amicably,” but that “his choice to transition off the board was in no way linked to this situation.”
