Introducing: Your Internet Viewing Guide for the Cate Blanchett Film “Tár”
Since its release in October 2022, Tár, directed by Todd Field and starring Cate Blanchett, has received high praise from critics as one of the best films of the year. Cate’s performance was particularly noteworthy, which earned her an Oscar nomination for Best Actress this year, shortly after winning the same award at the Golden Globes. The movie has received six nominations for Oscars overall, including Best Picture.
The focus of the film is Cate’s character Lydia Tár, a made-up, world-acclaimed composer and director whose demise, both personally and professionally, occurs as she is gearing up to command the Berlin Philharmonic. Julian Glover, Nina Hoss, Sophie Kauer, Allan Corduner, Noemie Merlant, and Mark Strong are also featured in the film.

In a recent W interview, the actor discussed the movie and remarked, “Todd brought me this screenplay, and I swallowed it. He wrote that at the start of the pandemic. The story had a musical element because Todd was a musician first, not only because it was set in the world of classical music. It could have been about it an architect, a painter, a writer, or anyone in a position of significant institutional power and how that position interferes with their sense of self and capacity for interpersonal connection.
During Variety’s Actors on Actors series, she also spoke with Michelle Yeoh, who plays the lead in Everything Everywhere All at Once. She said, “The character of Lydia is a person who has become distanced from herself—even though there is a complete sense in the society in which she tries to move of who she is, how she thinks, and what she’s achieved. She has been cut off from not only her profession and her creative instinct but also from who she is because she is the leader of a significant institution and is, therefore, in a position to be able to and expected to wield a certain level of authority.
Where can I watch Tár on the web? Is it available on Netflix?

Supporters of “Tar” Missed At the 2023 Oscars, Cate Blanchett handled being photobombed with ease.
Despite not receiving a prize at the 2023 Oscars, Cate Blanchett nevertheless managed to garner attention without having to speak.
The Tár lead attended the 2023 Vanity Fair Oscars party to support her fellow nominees after competing for Best Actress at the 95th Academy Awards. To the joy of those documenting the star-studded event, Cate paused to grab some pictures with fellow co-star Todd Field while walking on a blue carpet in the same gown she dressed for the ceremony.
Yet, soon after the pair stood for cameras, Variety saw Cate deftly handle a circumstance she hadn’t anticipated. Gabriel LaBelle, who starred in The Fabelmans, walked up behind her and photobombed the perfect moment with a thumbs-up as she carried on taking shots.
