North Alabama man arrested in wife’s shooting death case

Lauderdale County authorities have arrested a man after he shot his wife’s dead. Lauderdale County Sheriff Joe Hamilton said William Cornelius Chapin II, 63, of Florence, has been charged with murder of his wife.

The following charges came after deputies responded to a call for a welfare check at around 8 a.m yesterday. Recently in the 4000 block of County Road 10, north of the Cloverdale community. They found the dead body of a woman inside a residence. The lady was identified as Debra Annette Chapin, 59, of Florence, who died of an apparent brutal gunshot wound.
According to the reports, Debra Chapin, a pre-K teacher’s aide at Underwood Elementary, was Chapin’s wife. An investigation following the same is continuing.
