With the launch of new ad campaign, California Governor Newsom is trying to aim at states who are considering abortion travel bans. This new ad of Newsom’s Campaign for Democracy is all set to air in Alabama starting on Monday. The governor has already tweeted this ad in his social media post on Sunday morning.
This ad campaign would directly target to the abortion ban and this abortion ban would have no exception for rape and incest. Now, Republicans are considering to criminalize young women’s travel to receive abortion care.
The post on social media is a video that contain text, “Alabama’s abortion ban has no exceptions for rape or incest. Now, Republicans are trying to criminalize young women’s travel to receive abortion care. We cannot let them get away with this.”
The commercial video is of 30-seconds showing two young women who are nervous and driving in a car passing a sign that reads “State Line 1 Mile.”
“We’re almost there. You’re gonna make it,” the passenger tells the woman behind the wheel just before they hear a siren and are pulled over by a state trooper.
The voiceover says in the video during movement of the state trooper towards the car that, “Trump Republicans want to criminalize young Alabama women who travel for reproductive care”.
In that video the trooper was asking for pregnancy test from two women, then the trooper put handcuffs on her hands.
The ad is for putting major effort in order to combat travel bans across the United States which is similar to the ad that ran in Tennessee. Alabama is considering to pass a bill which would make travelling outside the state to receive and abortion, a crime.
Travelling outside of minors for abortion without parental consent is a crime as said by the RightToTravel.org website in the two states and Oklahoma which are considering bill for same, even if it’s a case of incest or if there is abuse in the family.
Newsome had also partnered with the governors of Oregon and Washington in June, 2022 after two days of ruling for a issue regarding a multi-state commitment promising to defend access to reproductive health care, including abortion and contraceptives. Hence, this is not the first time that the governor has taken in the political battle over abortion since the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade in June of 2022.
