The National Weather Service updated a frost advisory on Tuesday at 8:31 p.m. for several counties in Alabama, valid for Wednesday between 3 a.m. and 8 a.m. The advisory warns of temperatures as low as the middle 30s leading to frost formation, which could harm sensitive outdoor vegetation.
The weather service said, “Temperatures as low as the middle 30s will result in frost formation. Frost could harm sensitive outdoor vegetation. Sensitive outdoor plants may be killed if left uncovered. Take steps now to protect tender plants from the cold.”
It’s important to protect tender plants from the cold by covering them before sunset or moving them indoors if possible.
Frost advisories are typically issued from May to October when conditions are favorable for frost development, especially when temperatures drop to 36 degrees or lower. Severe frost may end the growing season, known as a ‘killing frost’.
