Sonya Eddy dies at 55, Octavia Spencer confirms!

Frank Valentini, the show’s executive producer, confirmed the information regarding Sonya Eddy, well known for playing Epiphany Johnson, the chief nurse of “General Hospital.”

Sonya Eddy, a star of “General Hospital,” has passed away, Frank Valentini, the executive producer, has announced. She was 55.

Valentini tweeted the information on Tuesday, saying: “I’m devastated by the passing of the amazing @TheRealSonyaEd. She was a friend as well as an actress who I genuinely loved. The heart of the nurse’s station will now have a little less light, but the show as well as our set will continue to feature her vitality and light.”

 

Octavia Spencer, a close friend of Eddy’s, also posted a touching tribute to him on Instagram.

The 52-year-old Spencer posted a picture of Eddy with the caption, “My friend @sonyaeddy died suddenly yesterday night. “Another creative angel left the planet. Her hordes of @generalhospitalabc followers will miss her.”

Eddy was remembered as a “fan favourite” and “valued member” of their family in a statement from “General Hospital.”

In March 2006, Eddy debuted on “General Hospital.” On the long-running ABC soap drama, she portrayed Epiphany Johnson, the no-nonsense head nurse at Port Charles General Hospital.

The films “Satanic Hispanics,” “Frank and Penelope,” and “V/H/S/99,” as well as the Apple+ serial “The Last Days of Ptolemy Grey” as well as the series “This Show Sucks Truth + Consequences,” all starred Eddy in 2022.

Eddy was raised in Concord, California, and obtained a degree from UC Davis, according to IMDb. In 1990, she made her acting debut as the lead in Ruby Dee’s play “Zora, Is My Name!”

“She left an enduring impression on everyone she interacted with, both on and off the screen. Funds can be donated to The Charity of the National Student Nurses Association Inc. in memory of her.
