Alabama lawmakers pass sweeping college and public school DEI ban

The Alabama legislature made a huge change recently and that has been the talk of the place. It has approved a broad ban on diversity, equity, and inclusion, which is now awaiting Gov. Kay Ivey’s signature.

The bill, Senate Bill 129, aims to restrict the promotion of DEI and other divisive concepts in universities and public institutions of all time. It also prohibits state support for DEI-related initiatives and mandatory pledges in schools and state agencies.

Another thing that is aims is address the concept such as inherent superiority or inferiority based on race, colour, religion, and other characteristics. This further prohibits the discrimination based on these traits and questions the moral character of everyone.
Later, it challenges the idea of collective guilt and rejects the idea that meritocracy is racist or sexist. It also mandates that institutions of higher education align restroom usage with biological sex. Republican state Sen. Will Barfoot criticized schools for promoting ideological activism and emphasized the importance of academic integrity and knowledge pursuit over divisive ideologies. It aims to foster unity and common ground rather than division.
