A frost advisory was issued by the National Weather Service this Monday valid for Tuesday between 4 a.m. and 9 a.m. for a list of places that include Lamar, Pickens, Tuscaloosa, Sumter, Greene, Hale, Perry, Bibb, Chilton, Coosa, Tallapoosa, Chambers, Marengo, Dallas, Autauga, Lowndes, Elmore, Montgomery, Macon, Bullock, Lee and Russell counties. The weather service consists of, “Take steps now to protect tender plants from the cold.”
Frost advisories are issued usually from May to October (but can be extended if necessary) when temperatures, winds, and sky cover are favorable for frost development. This case happens when the temperature is usually 36 degrees or less. In several cases, the frost is severe enough to end the growing season and that is what is concerning the people.
