Mr Gales, a Bafta-winning animation and visual effects director, visited a business partner in a Californian city on Friday after working in Tennessee on an advertisement for car manufacturer Kia.
According to local media, Joseph Hansen Madarang, 39, was arrested on suspicion of intoxication while driving.
According to police, he was driving recklessly on a one-way street when the accident occurred, which took Mr Gales’s life.
According to an LAPD spokesman, “one of the pedestrians, a 36-year-old man, bled to death from his injuries; the other, a 32-year-old person, suffered serious injuries.” At the time of the incident, both were walking across the road in a marked crosswalk.
